Japan is rarely understood by the Western mind. Mikey no longer concerns himself with "understanding" the culture, he just tries to learn from these people (or any other culture) that which might be helpful to us all.
On the right we see a lady carrying flowers in her backpack. "When I saw this lady standing there with her flowers hanging out of the pack, I thought it's such a contrast from America where many people, including children, must carry in their backpack not flowers, but something for protection from others."
